Japanese flowering cherry ‘Kanzan’ Tree

The Japanese flowering cherry ‘Kanzan’, is one of the most popular Japanese ornamental cherries. It is a fast-growing tree that can reach up to 10 metres tall with a crown spread of up to 8 metres wide when mature.

The crown has strong upright branches, in a ‘V’ shape.

The bark is smooth and brown-red in colour. Foliage is deciduous, the leaves shoot bronze in colour then change to glossy dark green. In the autumn they change colour to yellow-orange.

Flowering takes place in May, at the same time as the leaves shoot, and is spectacular, when masses of fragrant, pink flower clusters cover the crown of the tree.
