Olive Tree

Olives are native Mediterranean, slow growing small evergreen trees, famous and loved for their fruit and the oils produced from them.

Olive trees live for 500 years on average with some specimens recorded of reaching up to 1500 years old!

The bark and branches of the olive tree are silver-grey and smooth when young, turning dark brown, gnarled and grooved with age.

The leaves are grey-green in colour with a silvery underside, narrow long elliptical and evergreen. Small, fragrant, yellow-white flowers appear in June – August. The olive tree fruits are elliptical, almost round and olive green or black when ripe. They take a year to fully ripen.
