Soils
Wild cherry trees prefer moist, loamy, alkaline soil but will adapt to most other substrates.
The wild cherry is a native ornamental tree prized for its outstanding spring blossom, summer fruit and autumn leaf colours. The bark is brown-red in colour. Foliage is deciduous, the leaves shoot bronze in colour then change to dark green. In the autumn they change colours from yellow to orange-red before they fall. Flowering takes place in April and is spectacular, when masses of fragrant, brilliant white flower clusters cover the crown of the tree. Flowering is followed by the fruiting of edible, delicious, round, dark red cherries.
