Shallow, spreading dense root system. due to air reservoirs in the xylem, the golden weeping willow can tolerate long periods of flooding.


Golden weeping willows can tolerate dry locations but will produce surface roots that can become a nuisance.

Golden weeping willow trees have an outstanding ability to regenerate so are often pollarded. They can be crown lifted or left alone to grow away naturally.


The golden weeping willow is a fast-growing, medium sized picturesque tree with wide spreading weeping branches.

The picturesque golden weeping willow in maturity will reach 15-20 metres tall with a wide, weeping crown of 15 metres.

The bark and branches are brownish-grey in colour, deeply grooved with distinctive yellow twigs. The weeping branches are covered in long narrow yellow-green leaves that stretch out and cascade like a waterfall, all the way down to ground level.

Fragrant flowers in the form of catkins appear when leaves shoot in April-May
