Golden weeping willow trees have an outstanding ability to regenerate so are often pollarded. They can be crown lifted or left alone to grow away naturally.

Characteristics

The golden weeping willow is a fast-growing, medium sized picturesque tree with wide spreading weeping branches.

The picturesque golden weeping willow in maturity will reach 15-20 metres tall with a wide, weeping crown of 15 metres.

The bark and branches are brownish-grey in colour, deeply grooved with distinctive yellow twigs. The weeping branches are covered in long narrow yellow-green leaves that stretch out and cascade like a waterfall, all the way down to ground level.

Fragrant flowers in the form of catkins appear when leaves shoot in April-May

Note: The golden weeping willow can tolerate flooding for long periods of time. This is due to air reservoirs within the tissue (xylem), that provides water and nutrient from the roots to the rest of the tree.
