The Katsura is a medium to small Japanese native mountain regions tree known for its beautiful leaf changing colours.
Katsura preference is moist soils that are deep nutrient rich, sandy or loamy. Ph can be acid to calcareous.
Sun loving but will tolerate light shade.
Mature height 6-12m.
Inconspicuous, reddish in colour and appear in April before leaves open.
Deciduous, round to cordate soft red-bronze colour when first appearing in May and later turning pale bluish-green throughout the summer months.
Purple-brown pods 1.5cm long.
Shallow to cordate roots often near to the surface and can therefore lift paving. Sensitive to soil compaction.
