Glossy dark green, toothed, leathery leaves 2 to 4cm long, oval-elliptic. White flowers in clusters in April-May with a strong sweet fragrance that can be smelled from several metres away.

Osmanthus can be planted in sun to partial shade locations and thrives in all humus-rich, well-drained, sufficiently moist, acidic to neutral soils. Tolerant of frost, sensitive to drought.
