Beech (Fagus sylvatica)

A large deciduous British native tree used extensively for hedging and screening projects. As a hedge or screen, it can be grown and maintained as high as you like or can cope with!

Plant in full sun or slight-shade locations in well-drained, chalk, clay, loam or sandy soils. pH acid, alkaline or neutral.

Field maple (Acer campestre)

A British native medium size tree and very good when used to create hedges. Plant in full sun or slight-shade locations in moist but well-drained, chalk, clay, loam or sandy soils. pH neutral. A good plant for coastal hedging. Can reach 10m tall or higher.

Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna)

A popular British native used mostly for hedges but also a valuable specimen tree. Plant in full sun or slightly shaded locations well-drained, chalk, clay, loam or sandy soils. pH acid, alkaline or neutral. Height 4m or taller.

Hazel (Corylus avellana)

A large, wide shrub or small tree. Plant in full sun locations in moist, well-drained, chalk, loam or sandy soils. pH alkaline or neutral. Height 4m or taller.

Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus)

A very tough British native tree that is very popular for hedge and screen planting. Fast growing and dense foliage can be grown and maintained as tall as you like. Plant in full sun or light-shade locations in well-drained, chalk, clay, loam or sandy soils. pH acid, alkaline or neutral.

New Zealand Broadleaf (Griselinia littoralis)

A fast-growing large, bushy evergreen shrub that is ideal for hedges and screening projects. Can reach 4m or taller. A good plant for coastal locations.

Ramanas Rose (Rosa rugosa)

A tough medium growing very prickly deciduous shrub that makes a good impenetrable hedge or screen. Can be planted in coastal regions. Plant in full sun or light-shade locations in moist but well-drained, chalk, clay, loam or sandy soils. pH acid, alkaline or neutral. Height up to 2m tall.

Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis)

An upright dense evergreen shrub that can be used to create mixed hedges or on its own.

Plant in full sun in moist but well-drained, chalk, clay, loam or sandy soils. pH acid, alkaline or neutral. Height to 2.5m tall.

Silver birch (Betula pendula)

A medium sized deciduous British native tree with appealing white peeling bark. The drooping branches swing in the wind and create shade at the base of the tree. Plant in full sun or light shade locations in moist, well-drained, chalk, clay, loam or sandy soils. pH acid, alkaline or neutral. Height up to 30m tall and 8m wide.

Aspen (Populus tremula)

A large deciduous British native tree with a broad crown. Good for shelter and shade but can also be used for boundary hedging.  Plant in full sun locations in well-drained, chalk, clay, loam or sandy soils. pH acid, alkaline or neutral. Height up to 30m tall and 10m wide.

White willow (Salix alba)

A fast-growing much-loved large British native deciduous tree with a broad crown, some varieties have weeping branches that create good shelter around their bases. Plant in full sun locations in moist chalk, clay, loam or sandy soils. pH acid, alkaline or neutral. Height up to 25m tall and 15m wide.

Common lime (Tilia x europaea)

An impressive, large, fast-growing deciduous British native tree. A good choice for shelter planting inside paddocks. Plant in full sun locations in well-drained, chalk, clay, loam or sandy soils. pH acid, alkaline or neutral. Height up to 40m tall and 15m wide.
